Paso Robles Emergency Services Held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for New SaveStation AED in City Park Paso Robles Wednesday afternoon.
Fire Captain John Prickett said Today we are welcoming our new SaveStation into the community, this is the public’s opportunity to recognize the donors that contributed money to make this possible. Our public access defibrillator program has always been a challenge in terms of not being available to anybody and everybody everyday of every hour or every week or every month. So we want to make sure that it is available 365 days a year 24hrs a day, in the city we have a lot of large events, we have our downtown festivals, concerts in the park we also have a lot of tourist and visitors that come to the downtown area and there are so many businesses in the surrounding area so our population is growing in this area, so it’s nice to be able to offer this machine to the public in the event that someone should go into what’s called sudden cardiac arrest, our community and our nation in general are suffering more and more cardiac arrest events so it’s nice to have an AED available to anybody until Emergency Services can arrive.
The problem is, time is of the essence when it comes to using an AED. Anybody within the surrounding area can identify this is as a SaveStation. One great thing about this AED is that it is bi-lingual and it can treat pediatric patients and we have a park here where a lot of little kids attend. The machine is fully automatic so all a person has to do is follow the directions on the machine itself.
We have AED’s throughout the community, we have one in the city library, we also have one in the movie theatre as well but nobody really knows about them. And nor are they available all the time cause of some businesses hours So with this one being in the center of the park it is available whenever someone needs to use it. We also have other parks that could use this type of technology for example Barney Swartz Park where the hold large sporting events and or general gatherings. After this event today I will be going to all of the businesses in the area getting people familiar with sidewalk CPR and other lifesaving techniques. This was made possible by Justin Community Grant and also Paso Robles Elk’s Lodge. Both of these groups helped with getting the machine installed. If any other businesses want to help with additional AED’s you can contact Paso Robles Emergency Services.
PASO ROBLES – As reported yesterday, Paso Robles Police officers and detectives responded to a stabbing victim, who claimed to have been stabbed in the Salinas Riverbed.
Detectives worked throughout the night and into the early morning hours, following several leads. As it turns out, the victim fabricated the events which led to his stabbing. The victim was not stabbed in the riverbed by an unknown transient. The victim was in an argument in a vehicle with a female acquaintance, Katelyn Coffey (29, Paso Robles). During the argument, Coffey stabbed the victim several times, before dropping him off at Walmart. We also learned the stabbing occurred outside city limits, in rural Paso Robles.
Early this morning, Coffey was located by PRPD detectives in California Valley. She was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Coffey was booked in the SLO County Jail.
The Paso Robles Police Department also intends to pursue charges against the victim in this case for his false report of facts that led to wasted time and resources.
This is an ongoing investigation, and the Paso Robles Police Department is requesting anyone with any information to call the PRPD at (805) 237-6464 or persons wishing to remain anonymous are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers’ 24-hour hotline at 805-549-STOP or by texting “SLOTIPS” plus your message” to CRIMES (274637).

The suspect in this case is described as a transient male wearing a baseball cap, white shirt, and blue jeans.

PASO ROBLES – Yesterday, February 1st, 2023 around 4:30 pm, Paso Robles Police Departments K9 officer stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near 14 and Olive. During the stop, the driver, Jacob Hamby (36, Paso Robles), started to conceal something under the driver’s seat. Hamby then sped off, pitching a stolen handgun out of the window. As officers gave chase, Hamby stopped his car to let out two passengers. Both were contacted. One of the passengers, Julian Gomez (32, Santa Margarita) was arrested for warrants. Due to Hamby’s driving, the pursuit was terminated.
Shortly after, an off-duty motor officer saw Hamby eastbound on 46, outside of City limits. Paso Robles Police detectives were in the area and located Hamby near Cholame. Detectives followed Hamby and called for a marked unit from the California Highway Patrol to assist with a traffic stop. The CHP met our trailing detectives and Hamby’s vehicle was stopped due to a successful spike strip deployment. Hamby finally gave up and was arrested in McKittrick (Kern County).
Hamby was booked in the SLO County Jail on outstanding warrants, evading, possession of stolen property, and numerous weapons charges.
