PASO ROBLES, CA – On Saturday August 2, 2026, at approximately 7:04 PM Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a report of a vegetation fire at 9000 Highway 46 East, known as the City landfill.

First arriving, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the landfill with a large area of debris actively burning. There were numerous pieces of heavy equipment used for daily operations threatened by the fire. In a coordinated effort firefighters were able to push the flames back from the equipment and get everything moved prior to full extinguishment.

Two fire engines, one ladder truck, one squad, one water tender and one Battalion Chief from Paso Robles responded. Under the City’s automatic aid agreements, three fire engines, one bulldozer, one water tender and one Battalion Chief from Cal Fire / SLO County Fire and one fire engine from Atascadero Fire all responded to assist. A total of 23 firefighters responded, with assistance from the City water department as well as the landfill personnel

The cause of the fire was undetermined.
