PASO ROBLES, CA – Water service has been restored to the fairgrounds and businesses near the intersection of Riverside Avenue and 24th Street, after a water main break Tuesday night. City crews sealed off the broken section and created temporary bypass lines to restore water service to businesses and allow the California Mid-State Fair to open as scheduled today.

 

After excavating and investigating the break, the approximately 11-foot excavation on Riverside Avenue just south of 24th Streetwas filled and covered. Work will continue overnight and Thursday to install additional temporary lines to deliver water consistently to the area through the end of the fair. The City will continue to monitor the temporary bypass, and plans to permanently replace the damaged section of the main line after the fair ends.

 

City of Paso Robles Fire, Police, Water, and Streets teams were deployed to the fairgrounds area around 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, responding to both the water main break as well as a fallen tree in a fairground parking lot.

 

City crews worked through Tuesday nightand all day Wednesday to assess the break and restore service. Residences were not affected, and local businesses near the intersection of Riverside Avenue and 24th had water restored by mid-day Wednesday.

 

Just before the water main break was reported, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a call of a tree falling onto parked vehicles in a State-owned lot being used for the Mid-State Fair. The lot near Pioneer Park is leased to the City for most of the year, but is used by the State during the fair for event staff parking. Three employees were injured in the incident: Two declined medical aid, and one was transported to a local hospital and later released. The fallen boughs were removed, and the lot reopened this morning.
