As of 12:30 p.m. today, City crews were working diligently to perform underground water line repairs prior to the Mid-State Fair opening at 4 p.m. There was a significant water line break that cut off water to nearby businesses, and water is being temporarily re-routed until a permanent repair can be made. At this time, no residences are affected.

 

Riverside Avenue is closed to northbound traffic between 24th Street and Gregory Avenue while repair work is underway. Motorists are asked to avoid the area and use alternate routes to minimize congestion and allow crews to safely complete repairs.

 

Just before the water main break was reported, Paso Robles Fire and Emergency Services responded to a call of a tree falling onto parked vehicles in a lot being leased to the State of California for the Mid-State Fair. Fire crews utilized chainsaws and specialized equipment from the department’s Heavy Rescue to extricate the two trapped individuals. The lot near Pioneer Park is being used for staff parking, and three fair employees were injured. Two refused medical aid, and one was transported to a local hospital and later released. The fallen boughs were removed, and the lot re-opened this morning. 

 

The City is working with Paso Robles Event Center operators and State representatives to plan for traffic adjustments in case Riverside Avenue is not able to open before the Mid-State Fair officially opens for its first day of the year at 4 p.m.
