PASO ROBLES – As reported yesterday, Paso Robles Police officers and detectives responded to a stabbing victim, who claimed to have been stabbed in the Salinas Riverbed.

Detectives worked throughout the night and into the early morning hours, following several leads. As it turns out, the victim fabricated the events which led to his stabbing. The victim was not stabbed in the riverbed by an unknown transient. The victim was in an argument in a vehicle with a female acquaintance, Katelyn Coffey (29, Paso Robles). During the argument, Coffey stabbed the victim several times, before dropping him off at Walmart. We also learned the stabbing occurred outside city limits, in rural Paso Robles.

Early this morning, Coffey was located by PRPD detectives in California Valley. She was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a controlled substance. Coffey was booked in the SLO County Jail.

The Paso Robles Police Department also intends to pursue charges against the victim in this case for his false report of facts that led to wasted time and resources.

This is an ongoing investigation, and the Paso Robles Police Department is requesting anyone with any information to call the PRPD at (805) 237-6464 or persons wishing to remain anonymous are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers’ 24-hour hotline at 805-549-STOP or by texting “SLOTIPS” plus your message” to CRIMES (274637).
